Cheshire With Her Majesty The Queen
Today the brand-new Duchess of Sussex had the unprecedented honor of accompanying Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on a day of Royal engagements in Cheshire, England. Why unprecedented? It took the Duchess of Cambridge a year to get a solo outing with The Queen, yet the Sussex Royal wedding wasn’t even a month ago. Besides that, Chocolate Duchess traveled with Her Majesty on her private train, which it’s said not even Prince Harry OR either of The Cambridges have ever done. To make the whole thing even more delicious, The Queen and her new granddaughter-in-law departed London on Wednesday night and had a Royal train car slumber party before emerging to greet the crowds waiting for them this morning!
So what does a Duchess wear for a day at work with the most famous woman in the world? Her Royal Highness turned to her wedding dress designer Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller for a sleek bespoke cream-colored cape dress. The angular shape of the cape gave an edge to a dress that was still perfectly appropriate for a day with The Queen. The Duchess chose simple black accessories – Sarah Flint pumps, a Givenchy bag and belt, with a lovely pair of diamond and pearl earrings which are reported to be a gift from The Queen. The late Princess of Wales had an identical pair, and since both of her sons inherited her personal jewelry, I think it’s entirely possible that these are the same earrings.
I found Chocolate Duchess' look perfectly modern, refreshingly lady-like, and completely deferential to the woman she was there to support. If The Duchess of Sussex keeps this up, it won’t take too long before she’s on Vanity Fair’s Best-Dressed List!
